Automated fuel inventory at gas stations
How a fuel retailer replaced dipsticks and logbooks with wireless DUT-E 2Bio S7 sensors — live level, volume and temperature in every tank, with or without internet.

A fuel retailer with 100+ stations
The company stores, supplies and retails petroleum products for corporate and retail customers and runs its own network of gas stations selling petrol and diesel. Each fuel is stored in a separate underground cylindrical tank, 2,500–3,000 mm in diameter and 50,000–70,000 litres in capacity.

Dipsticks, logbooks and calibration charts
An operator opened the hatch, lowered a dipstick to the bottom, read the wet mark, measured the temperature separately, wrote everything into a logbook and calculated the volume from the tank calibration chart with a temperature correction. Slow, continuous manual work — especially at stations with several tanks — with room for error at every step.
The goal: automatic level, volume and temperature in each tank, live inventory for dispatch, per-tank reports for any period, and local monitoring that works without internet.

Wireless sensors, a local display and cloud reporting
Each tank received a wireless DUT-E 2Bio S7 fuel level sensor that measures level, volume and temperature with a relative level error of 0.1–0.2%. Its explosion-proof design is IECEx-certified for potentially explosive atmospheres.
Readings travel over Bluetooth up to 50 m — no cabling — to an S7 Radiobox CAN converter and on to a MasterCAN Display, where the operator switches between tanks even when there is no internet. A CANUp gateway sends the same data to a cloud monitoring platform that keeps the history and reports fuel dispensed from each tank.
Fuel inventory accounting is automated: no dipsticks, no manual records or calculations — fewer routine operations and fewer errors. Operators see fuel locally on the display; dispatch sees every tank remotely. The system runs at 30 gas stations, and the company plans to equip its entire network of more than 100.
Task → Solution → Result
Manual inventory
Dipstick readings, separate temperature measurement and chart calculations at every tank.
DUT-E 2Bio S7 + display + cloud
Wireless IECEx sensors, an offline local display and remote monitoring per tank.
Automated at 30 stations
Live level, volume and temperature; rollout to 100+ stations planned.
When the type of fuel stored in the tank changes, the same accuracy is maintained without recalibrating the sensor. … The equipment is safe for petrol level monitoring and can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
