The customer

A top-100 Mongolian enterprise

Founded in 1994, the plant runs its own ore quarries and processing and produces steel and cast iron — billets, rebar and castings — as well as recycling scrap metal. It has long ranked among the country’s top 100 enterprises.

  • 30 years in operation
  • 1,500 employees
  • 100,000 tons of steel a year

The task

Supplier paperwork and a dipstick

Excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks and loaders refuel from vertical tanks in dedicated hangars — each 8 m tall, 7 m in diameter, 300,000 litres, with one pipeline for filling and one for dispensing.

Deliveries were taken from supplier documents and levels measured by dipstick; actual volumes in and out weren’t measured, leaving room for undetected drains and fraud. The plant wanted live tank level, measured receipts and dispensing, theft prevention and reports for any period.

DUT-E sensor assembled from 1-metre sections
The solution

Level, flow in and flow out on one bus

A DUT-E CAN fuel level sensor was extended to 8 metres with 1-metre add-on sections — easy to transport and install. DFM Industrial CAN flow meters on the fill and dispense lines measure every litre in and out. Everything connects through the S6 telematics interface.

A MasterCAN Display shows live fuel data to the operator handling receipts and dispensing, and a CANUp gateway sends it to a cloud platform with reports for economists, accounting and management.

The result

The plant now sees current level and every volume filled and dispensed, in real time and in reports for any period. Fuel accounting for the tank is accurate and the risk of theft has been eliminated. Installation on the plant’s other tanks is being planned.

Task

Paper-based fuel accounting

8 m, 300,000 L tanks tracked by dipstick and supplier documents.

Solution

DUT-E 8 m + DFM Industrial + display + cloud

Level plus measured inflow and outflow, shown on site and in the cloud.

Result

Accurate accounting

Every litre in and out recorded; theft risk eliminated.

The fuel level sensor can be extended using 1-meter sections, which allowed us to quickly assemble and install it. The S6 cabling system made it easy to mount and quickly configure the entire fuel monitoring system.
