The customer

A long-standing telematics installer

The company has worked in South Africa’s telematics market for over 25 years. It installs fuel level sensors and GPS trackers and connects them to a telematics service for more than 200 vehicle fleets and diesel generator operators. It has used DUT-E CAN sensors since 2015 — mostly in trucks and gensets, in tanks from 100 litres to several thousand.

Manual tank calibration with a measuring container
The task

Calibration ate half the installation time

A fuel sensor is only as accurate as the tank’s calibration table. Done manually, the tank is filled portion by portion from a measuring container, waiting for the level to settle before every entry. That takes up about half of the installation time and leaves plenty of room for human error.

The provider wanted faster installs, no calibration mistakes and lower installation costs.

DUT-E ATS calibration station
The solution

DUT-E ATS automatic calibration station

The DUT-E ATS station is controlled from a smartphone app. The installer enters the approximate tank volume; the station picks the calibration step, pumps fuel continuously at 1,500 L/h, records the table automatically and shuts off when done. The table is saved in the DUT-E sensor’s memory and in the app.

Built-in protection prevents pump overheating, excess fuel pressure and air in the hoses, and the unit is compact and light.

The result

One installation team used DUT-E ATS consistently for several months. Tank calibration dropped from 90 to 30 minutes — and because the installer sets up the tracker while the station works, a complete system is installed twice as fast. The provider can do several times more installations with the same team.
